[it wasn't easy, but Hal somehow found his way to the mess hall. which smelled absolutely horrible, but at least there were no remnants of blood in the Tuesday soup. he's ended up cowering in the corner with a cup of tea and a book he had on hand. in fact, he's been there for a while. in the hand that isn't holding his book, he's holding on to a domino and gripping it very tightly]

[ quickly glances down at her cup then looks back at him ]

Do you have any other questions?

How long have you been here? It's unusual that you're not carrying around Eve.

[departea]

Since last August. Time works differently here than outside the barrier. And then sometimes you get these sort of... updates, and you suddenly know what's been going on back home.

[dominoeffect]

Updates ... Another way to throw things out of order.

[departea]

Yeah, they're pretty crazy. But they don't normally happen often.

[dominoeffect]

But August to ... now is a very long time. Comparably. Are you saying this has happened to you?

[departea]

Just once.

[dominoeffect]

Between the former housemates and the current ones. That would be my guess, anyway.

[departea]

It was definitely one hell of an update, but at least I'm caught up now.

Anyway, yes, that's why I don't have Eve.

Tom will take care of her.

[departea]

And he has the schedule. He may have to drop some activities because of being undermanned-- I hope it's not the Spanish lessons. She was doing so well at that...

He'll do what he can.

[departea]

Of course! He is quite good at changing her nappies, she couldn't be in safer hands. Ugh, I hope he doesn't let her watch the nature channel though, that's way too graphic.

I think it's more likely that he'll be teaching her how to build a swimming pool.

[departea]

She is not going near a pool without a scuba suit.

[dominoeffect]

At the rate he's going, it will be a while.

Then again, it seems that if we are stuck here, and you remembered me while in here, I know for a fact that you were there. It's ... the time continuum. Einstein would be somewhat thrown by it. And he thought he had made such a brilliant discovery.

No one really gets how it works. And sometimes you go home, and then get brought back, but don't remember ever being here. And other times you do.

How do you make the going home happen?

[departea]

You don't. Camp decides that for you.

[dominoeffect]

Right. I suppose a resignation notice wouldn't do.

Can you go to the kitchen and get some of that plastic wrap? I'd like to secure my shoes from any further damage.

[departea]

[ that makes her smile a little ]

Right-o!

[ and off she goes ]

[when she comes back, he takes the plastic wrap and turns out from underneath the table so he can use it.

his shoes aren't even that bad. in fact, one could even count the number of specks of mud without getting tired]

[ she just makes A Face ]

[he wraps up almost to his knee, using almost the entire roll]

All right. We can go now.
